I'm sorry that I have not written much here in the past week. I have been working on 5 business plans. I worry that I might say something in one that would violate a confidence or be perceived by one of the entrepreneurs as such.
I really enjoy the opportunity to be a part of the process with each company I work with. I know that many will see their precious dream trampled on by investors that do not share their enthusiasm for the idea but I also know that you never succeed unless you try.
I was just taking a break and saw Jeff Foxworthy on some interview show. When asked why he quit his job at IBM in 1984, he said, "I had to try. I could not go the rest of my life not knowing if it could have been different." I guess he has a new book out and is promoting it - Redneck Dictionary 3.
That is how I feel about the ventures, and adventures I have had. I hope you don't let fear hold you back. If you have an idea for a business, act on it. Research, plan, and work. It may fail, but then you will know you tried.
Like Magellan, there were others who tried and failed. Perhaps you know that Magellan failed too. Technically, he had sailed around the globe, it was just not in one trip. On the voyage where his ship sailed around the globe - he was killed in the Philippines. Some people do not like to have their villages burned if they don't join your church. Those who went before and those who came after owed their ability to those who went first.
What are you doing to be first, or to follow and learn from the experiences of others?
