Just when you thought is was safe to go back in the Fisher-Price kitchen they recall over 150,000 more toys. My first thought, and probably the same for many others was, how much lead from China this time? But I was wrong. It was a design flaw, and the products are manufactured in Mexico.
I love the quote from Fisher-Price spokeswoman Juliette Reashor:
The safety issue in Tuesday's recall was not identified as part of the stepped-up oversight and testing of production processes that began after the August recalls.
In other words, this was an issue that existed before and they just did not catch it then. It seems that the way to find these hazards is to wait until enough people complain and then "self-police" the situation. At first it seemed like a minor thing but now it is beginning to look like the fox is not even guarding the henhouse, he is running the place.
The timing could not be better. The head of the CPSC was being grilled by congress! I can tell you that after this many mistakes, a lot of people should lose their jobs. Pay cuts, and training are not enough here.
Maybe someone should write an add-in for the design software to identify choking hazards. Is it ethical to charge for that?
BTW - isn't this a great sponsored link I found on Google:
www.Pronto.com Find Fisher Price Recalls at Great Prices.
Who wants a recalled item at a great price? Automation is great isn't it?
