When Did Halloween Become the Day of Bloody Killers?

Every October we are bombarded by more and more movies that involve a significant amount of killing by very gory and ugly methods. Why? What does this say about our society or the people who write this stuff?

As a society, we condemn killing. Michael Vick is in jail, or will be, for having dogs fight and for putting some to death. Yet, Hollywood continues to make, and the various TV and cable channels continue to show the most graphic and horrible material depicting humans being treated in a manner worse than Vick's dogs got. Why is that acceptable?

What kind of punishment do we prescribe for a student that enters a school with a gun? Why then is ok to create a scene where someone does the same in a movie? Because the scene is not depicting reality? So, can we make fake child porn using computer graphics? I believe it is still against the law, than goodness.

I think that there is definitely a connection between what we watch and what we learn - like it or not. Freedom of speech is a valuable right. We need to use good judgment in how we reinforce or discourage media creations. If no one went to see the movies, then they would stop making so many of them.

Am I alone in this?

In case anyone is thinking of causing trouble at my house - this really is a picture of our dog.

I couldn't agree with you more...if no one went to see them then there wouldn't be any need to make them. Unfortunately, people are drawn in by the unknown. They are curious about what is inappropriate and therefore they can't get enough. The movies get worse because people are desensitizing themselves with each movie, so they have to come up with something "better" each time. In addition these scenes and movies are in my opinion not "acceptable" by any means they are RATIONALIZED and therefore become OK to create for all to see. Wish the world was better!

I agree, these types of movies promote behavior that is not acceptable. I'm just not sure how to get people to see how it harms them. Maybe if we could tie it to global warming...
