In case you missed it both Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump have books coming out next month. Rosie's book due out October 4th, is titled, "Celebrity Detox: (the fame game) and the Donald's book due out October 18th, is titled, "Think Big and Kick Ass," which coincidentally comes out next month as well. Given that the standard book biz time lines are 6 - 18 months for a book it is no surprise that one of these was planned to interfere with the other. Or was it?
Quoting from the June Chicago Sun-Times
O'Donnell said her long-delayed memoir on fame will not be ''vindictive'' or ''mean-spirited,'' but will offer a candid look at her very public life.
On the September 10th 2007 Foxnews.com site you can find this:
Rosie O'Donnell calls Donald Trump "a torn scarecrow" and "a slug" in her new book, according to the New York Post's Page Six gossip column. Click here for the Page Six report Trump responded to the Page Six comments:
"I devote some time to Rosie in my book. As you know, she said I went bankrupt and ABC apologized. Rosie lies. I got angry because I never went bankrupt. I'm worth $8 billion today. She never said that. She writes false stuff ... Rosie is a loser, a very sad case - unattractive both inside and out. I'll make a little wager my book sells a lot more than hers."
You don't suppose that since the ratings on The View and The Apprentice were at their peak during their feud, that the publishers decided to throw some gas on that fire and sell more books do you?
I'm not sure there are many people in both camps but clearly these two camps want to make sure that their side knows to buy the book. You can be that just as the 50Cent/Kanye West feud is now winding up to try to sell more albums for each, the Rosie/Donald feud is just getting started. (BTW - I heard that Bruce Springsteen is beating both Fity and Kanye combined!)
Is this good business? Is it a great marketing trick to start a very public fight to get your supporters to vote with their purchases? Looks like it will be tested very well before they decide. It is a well known method for motivating employees - picking an enemy. I'm not sure it works well on a public that has already seen enough of both of the combatants.
Who is Laughing - Rosie, The Donald, or Both all the way to the bank?
