Who Wants More Lead? - These did not make the news, yet.

The number of emails coming in dropped dramatically after Friday last post of the series last week on the Mattel recall. I was beginning to wonder if the American attention span had dropped from 3 weeks to 3 days.  Not to worry, a fresh batch of recalls is here to remind us that the leadership issues discussed yesterday are clearly in desperate need of attention.

Adrienne who writes the Baby Toolkit blog brought this new news to my attention. Her post for today - "Guess What: More Lead-Based Recalls" has a list of new recalls. It would appear that Plankton has been at work in the SpongeBob Squarepants factory. Who else would be so thoughtless?

The comments on the GoodyBlog post of 8/14/2007 are also well worth the read.

One person sent me a note from the Squidoo lens - she suggests looking into mass spectrometry or salvage yard equipment to test toys and paint. Very interesting. Perhaps a company with a low-cost mass spec machine might find this application opens a whole new market for them.

I have one comment on the lowcost drive issue - yes, Americans ask for low prices, but there is nothing in that request that requires people to break the law. We see it time and again though. Not just with toys. Try to run a janitorial service, agricultural company, or even most construction sites without using "under-the-table" labor. You will never be able to match the bids of those who use such labor. They are breaking the law and everyone looks away because it saves money.

Someone should do an analysis of the fair cost of a job. Any company that turns in bids below that cost should be investigated. Michael Vick is getting a lot of sympathy from some folks because he only killed dogs not people. Are we forgetting that he broke the law in a cruel and careless manner?.
