No Shock - Murdoch Buys WSJ and the rest of Dow Jones & Co with it

Having written about this a few weeks ago, in an article that was referenced by Slate.com, it should come as no surprise to readers of this blog, that Rupert Murdoch has succeeded yet again in his quest to increase his media empire. It was announced officially this afternoon - see the WSJ article (may require a subscription)

There is some concern about the various assets of Dow Jones & Co remaining neutral, if that is what they have been in the past. Perhaps they will even move farther to one side after a while. There is also talk of some of the assets being sold off to accelerate the recovery of the $5 billion paid by News Corp.

Not every family member was happy with the deal but enough were willing to go along and for News Corp. that was good enough. There were symbolic resignations from the board, the Wall Street Journal, and other properties. Perhaps they should have waited as many received change of control additions to their contracts in June. (the picture for this blog is an artists version of Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech)

Several blogs have written about this...

Perhaps the best view - Know More Media CEO Hal Hallady's Wall Street Journal Acquisition by News Corp is Pinnacle of Media Mania

Time Magazine's Coverage includes two articles:
Murdoch Bags the Journal
and "Why the Wall Street Journal Deserves Murdoch"

As I said before, it is probably not in News Corp's interest to make too many changes right away. Changes always occur and the years will show us what they will be. I'm curious as to how Neil Cavuto is celebrating this…
