Networking - 8 Random Things About Me

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Part of having a blog is being a part of the community. When starting out it is best to go along with the flow until you feel comfortable rocking the boat. I am not at the boat rocking stage yet after just 40 days of writing this blog.

I was tagged by Krishna De, the Personal Branding Guru from Ireland, to participate in a "meme" where blog authors share 8 things about themselves and then nominate 8 others to do the same.

Here are my lists...

I think this list should be something more than 8 random things.

  1. I was born in Nyack, New York. We lived in 11 places before I finished high school. (NY, PA 2x, RI, CT, FL, NC, CA 4x)
  2. I wanted to be a history teacher until I thought about having to teach kids like myself. I switched to biology.
  3. I share a patent with my brother-in-law. My design, his artwork and funding.
  4. Our American Eskimo dog is named Willie - after my best friend in high school and because we had just seen the movie Iron Will. (BTW - My friend is an Irish-American not an Eskimo.)
  5. My first job was at In-N-Out Burger in Pomona California.
  6. My father changed his last name to Anderson (his step father's name). My Grandfather's name was Salamon, from Salamanca Spain via Russia and Poland.
  7. I ran my first business for 3 years from my bedroom while I was a graduate student.
  8. My first website initials were based on my book series Anderson's Timesaving Comparative Guides. My first incorporated company was Anderson Unicom Group. A free book to the first person who posts a comment or trackback that says what the book and company initials represent to a molecular biologist. (Former employees are not eligible for the prize.)

I would prefer to see 8 things about these people that is NOT in their Author Profile:

  1. Josh Mullineux - Josh Mullineux dot com
  2. Matt Dickman - Techno//Marketer
  3. Easton Ellsworth - BlogTipping master at Businessblogwire
  4. Michael Moser - CallCenterScript
  5. RC - Strange Culture
  6. Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei - EyeonDNA
  7. Bill Belew - PanAsianBiz
  8. - Brain Based Business

I feel like I'm cheating but...

Anderson's Timesaving Comparative Guides = ATCG, DNA nucleotides

Anderson Unicom Group = AUG, start codons

Very clever!

Roger thanks and I already have an idea for this one - with a new twist:-) Great post and Happy Independence day!

Oops - fogot to list name:-)

Hsien,
I should have made it more difficult.

Ellen,
If you did not add a twist I would be disappointed!

Thanks to both of you for commenting.

Thanks for sharing. This is a good addition to your personal brand.

Dan,
I try not to be to personal but I am finding that it helps others to understand my perspective.

I will say that it is the one subject that I can discuss and not be wrong very often. Unless of course you ask my wife or my sons.

» Eight Random Concerns and a Few Suggestions from BrainBasedBusiness

Dear Roger,

Would you please send me your email address?

I have some questions about modern day desk top publishing. We had a brief conversation at the HBSAOC meeting on this subject.

Thanx

As a fellow taggee of KD's and a sometime teacher of history, let me say that teaching history is good, correcting essays (do they still do essays?) is very challenging (especially when you see before you the evidence of: a) how little has "gone in" and b) how bizarre the adolescent's mental construction of history can be). The science teachers always seemed to be able to do their corrections much faster!

To see the opposite, try teaching biology for non-science majors at Caltech. Their ability to recall high school biology or to derive answers from basic principles is astounding. It rebuilds your faith in the future.

Thanks for your comment. I am glad to have found your very interesting blog this way. I look forward to contributing when I have something valuable to say.

Bill,
Email, phone and snail mail addresses sent. I am always happy to help the HBSAOC
