Why after 5 years hasn't anyone started to use what they have made? In one case, the company is even giving it away, as freeware for limited use! In the other there are plenty of takers for the free version but they need revenue not free-loaders.
Why won't anyone pay for these technologies? I asked some people I know who could really make use of these technologies. In one case they know about one of these and they still don't use it. It is not so much of a problem with the technology or the application but the time is wrong.
Here are some reasons why you could have a great product and no sales
1) No one knows you exist - needs more marketing
2) No one cares if you exist; there's no demand - wrong market perhaps
3) Too expensive - there is not enough value or increase in sales to justify change
4) Too early; people may not understand the technology - Education AKA Marketing
5) Too late; there is already something better - like the Minidisk, you have a good thing but there is already something better.
If you find you have a great invention but no sales you may want to consider these issues. There are certainly more that I have missed. If you have something to contribute please do so here or, even better: trackback from your own blog.
