Why Have a Blog at All?

The two posts about how a blog can be good or bad for business generated more email than any other posts I have written. It also reminded me that I have not yet written about a contest that was put on by Liz Strauss at Successful Blog finished. Liz created "The Complete Metaphor Project" which received over 50 responses.

The metaphor for this blog - Teaching by Bits (and Bytes) - which I posted over 3 weeks ago, I believe says a great deal about my motivation. I think the question of the blog metaphor is very relevant to the debate about who should blog and how should they do it. Why start on something without a purpose? Why invest time effort and money without a measurable return value? The metaphor concept provides a good way to understand what you are trying to achieve.

I believe that a business should establish and maintain a blog to improve communication with existing and potential customers. The metaphor you chooses should be in keeping with that objective.

The Complete Metaphor Project List...

A bonus was given to 10 contributors. To quote Liz, "These ten contributors, selected randomly by a man, who paid so little attention that he doesn’t know what this contest is about, will receive an autographed copy of Lorelle’s book Blogging Tips — What Bloggers Won’t Tell You About Blogging.”

I am honored to be so randomly recognized. Smile
