5 Reasons to be at your business on the weekend
1) You're open for business - For many companies the weekend is the busiest day. That means that more people are there. When there are more people there are more problems. Of course, if you were not open, then you might be home right now.
2) Everyone else is - If your competition is open, then it is hard to let prospective and current customers go to them. Then again, does a leader follow what everyone else does? (Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday. They believe people should have one day when they can eat elsewhere.*)
3) No one else is - This can be a chance to catch-up on things that could not be done while you were busy putting out fires all week. Clear the inbox, answer or delete those emails, and straighten up the desk.
4) You have to - In the early days of a business there are more things to be done than hours in a normal day will allow. Weekend work is a part of the bargain when you started. It should not always be that way but for now it may need to be. Just remember - the amount of work you have to do now will only decrease by 24% when things get better. If you have to work 100 hour weeks, then you had better be ready for 75 hour weeks later.
5) You are the Captain - There is never a time when a true captain of a ship is off duty. It is always on your mind. It is always there, needing, wanting, and happy to have your direction.
*Chick-fil-A has been and as long as the Cathy family runs things, it always will be. It was founded on deep ethical and religious feelings and it continues to operate in that fashion today. S. Truett Cathy is a man of string convictions. He assures us that the chicken tastes better on Monday when everyone has had a day off. He is a man who is not afraid to be right.
