I'm new to blogging so if I don't have this tracking back thing working yet I apologize. I'll get someone to help me during regular working hours.
I was reading Frank Piller's Mass Customization & Open Innovation News. He had an interesting piece on a company called Spreadshirt. It is a very interesting outfit (pun there) with offices in Germany and in the US. They are a great example of a Modern Magellans outfit. They made a video that is very informative and Frank has that on his post so I do not need to repeat it here. 
I'm not sure of the turn-around time for Cafe Press but they also have an option of making your design available to everyone. So, both of these companies offer you a very special opportunity. If you just happen to create the next great logo/symbol/catch-phrase it could be a goldmine with no overhead.
Yet we continue to be inundated with drivel. Lots and lots of drivel and copyright infringement. Drivel, copyright infringement, and impolite sayings. I'm starting to sound like the Spanish Inquisition from Monty Python.
The point is that we can now have a shirt that has anything we want on it. With all of the endless possibilities, we choose to put ad logos and sports team names on our shirts. We don't choose Da Vinci paintings (public domain?) or other classic works and there are many classics that go unappreciated. Not much of what we chose is even uplifting - except the shirts on Girls Gone Wild I guess.
The saddest thing is what could be will not, because we choose not to make it so. There are millions of artists out there. Maybe someone should hook them up with the shirt makers and get them some dollars, or Euros, for the use of their works. Make the iPicture site and let people make shirts that have more value instead of providing free advertising. I love wearing board shorts but do I have to be selling them as I walk around as well?
What does this have to do with business transformation and how a company is operated? Everything.
Every day we have hundreds of choices. We have opportunities all around us to be better, different, and remarkable. We rarely choose them because they are not what everyone else is doing. We take the safe (that is how it has always been done) path to mediocrity.

to be a waking billboard I might as well be one for my own business! Maybe I’ll make a book and Shirt combo pack? Maybe the cover for the next book could be a shirt! Hmmm…always thinking….always selling.
